02 - Our Story

Zour means visit.

In Arabic, zour is an invitation. Come by. Sit down. Stay longer than you planned. It's the first thing a Lebanese household says to you, and it's the whole idea behind this place.

We're not trying to be a white-tablecloth restaurant, and we're not a takeaway shop with a fryer. Zour Beirut sits in between: the generosity and depth of a Lebanese kitchen, run at the pace of a diner. Wraps at lunch, manoush freshly baked through the afternoon, grills and mezza at night - the same room, the same welcome, from open to close.

The food is Beirut's: recipes carried over, cooked the way they're cooked at home, with nothing dumbed down. The room is Liverpool's - loud, mixed, full of families and shift workers and kids after training.

Every visit should give you a small piece of Beirut.
A black and white family photograph: four children with their arms around each other in a suburban backyard, a paling fence and a For Private Sale sign behind them
A full Zour Beirut spread on a timber table: mixed grill with kafta and tawook, whole roast chicken, sesame falafel, vine leaves, tabbouleh, chicken wraps, a burger and fries on Zour Beirut branded paper, with garlic sauce and pickles
Rue de Damas, Beirut, in the 1960s: shoppers passing La Maison du Bon Gout patisserie and a Kodak sign, Cinema Beyrouth and the Byblos cinema further along, and period cars parked down the street
